At IBC2025,one of the world’s most influential event for broadcasting and digital media, Science Image and the NDI team collaborated to build a global IP ecosystem.
Science Image showcased its latest solutions, including the Vela G recorder series, Studio Edge G codec series, and Dyna Tools management software suite. These innovations not only enhanced legacy SDI systems with Genlock but also fully supported NDI 6.2, making Science Image a standout NDI traffic star at the event.
Since 2018, as one of NDI’s earliest adopters and advocates, Science Image has collaborated closely with the NDI team to explore the integration of NDI and SDI technologies. The company’s founding team pioneered the global launch of the NDI HD mini (4K30) and NDI Studio 4K (12G-SDI) series in April 2019, coinciding with the release of NDI 4.0. These all-in-one devices combined High Bandwidth NDI encoding/decoding, format conversion, and optical transceiver capabilities.

The Vela Recorder Series is sleek and compact, featuring 12G-SDI input/output, 10-bit 4:2:2, optical transmission, and compatibility with AJA/BMD optical systems. It supports touch and remote control, recording, and loop playback, as well as multi-protocol encoding/decoding (SRT/RTMP/Full NDI/HX2/HX3). Light enough to be held in one hand, it can be used on a desk, in a rack, or on a camera. Equipped with a pluggable NVMe SSD, it ensures smooth, long-duration recording.

Studio Edge is a highly integrated 1U solution with 6 independent channels, suitable for desktop or rack mounting. Each channel supports encoding, decoding, up/down conversion, and format bridging (optical-to-SDI/HDMI/NDI, NDI/SDI/HDMI-to-optical, and SDI/HDMI-to-NDI conversion). All functions operate independently and concurrently, with clear status indicators and one-click parameter setup.

In complex live production environments where program creation and live broadcasting occur simultaneously, the challenges of stability, compatibility, interface formats, and protocols create the dilemma of ”wanting everything at once.” The solution lies in integration, multifunctionality, and concurrent SDI/IP operations—reducing nodes and achieving efficiency.
The system fully supports SLRs, cameras, drones, backpacks, matrices, images, videos, HD/4K, interlaced/progressive formats, converting them into unified output formats. These signals are then simultaneously distributed via SDI, HDMI, NDI, and fiber to cameras, control stations, studios, and live streaming endpoints—all handled by one device, eliminating worries about high-quality transmission and multitasking.
Practicalist, high-integration designs enable the compact Studio 2 and Studio Edge series to replace dozens of standalone devices, while the Vela series simultaneously handles encoding, decoding, recording, and optical transmission within a single unit. This meets demands for long-term storage, live streaming, and long-distance transmission, disrupting the traditional hardware-stacking approach.
